Alzheimer s Disease Is The Most Common Form Of Dementia
Do you know what alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease is? Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, and the fifth leading cause of death in ages 65 and older. ââ¬Å"2010 Alzheimer s Disease Facts and Figures. Rep. Vol. 6. Chicago: Alzheimer s Association, 2010. Print. Alzheimer s and Dementia.â⬠This disease is the deterioration of the brain that can, and probably will lead to brain loss that cannot be reversed. It is a very slow decline that can last years. Alzheimerââ¬â¢s usually targets short-term memory first, and can eventually impair thinking and reasoning later on, which will eventually cause problems with communication and daily living. Alzheimerââ¬â¢s and Dementia are commonlyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦(Funk Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, 2014) As you reach above the age of 65 the chances of the brain producing more of these fibers is increased. You can also tell the difference betw een Alzheimerââ¬â¢s and dementia because with Alzheimerââ¬â¢s the cerebral cortex shrinks, and there is nerve cell loss. Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease was first discovered by Doctor Alois Alzheimer in 1905. He was a German neurologist and psychiatrist. He observed Auguste D. who was 51 at the time he met her. Her family was concerned because she was having memory problems, changes in personality and difficulty speaking. Doctor Alzheimer originally diagnosed her with a form of aggressive dementia, but there was symptoms not commonly found in Dementia patients. Like difficulty in speech and aggression. When she died he performed an autopsy which he found that Augusteââ¬â¢s cerebral cortex shrank, and there was fatty tissues in the blood vessels of her brain. He discovered large amounts of neurofibrillary tangles and senile plaques (proteins in the brain), which are now the biggest indicator of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s. (alzheimers.org) These fibers increase with age, and when you have Alzheimerââ¬â¢s your body produces them faster then what it should. Alzheimerââ¬â¢s was not officially named in medicine until 1907, and was named after Doctor Alzheimer in 1910. In order to understand Alzheimerââ¬â¢s you should know about the three stages. All three stages have different symptoms and detection signs. There is the Early-Stage,

Human Dignity and Nursing Duties-Free-Samples -Myassignmenthelp
Question: Write an OP-Ed (Opinion-Editorial) piece that allows you to demonstrate an understanding of how issues relating to the dignity of the human person and the realization of the common good may be addressed by you in your professional practice now and in the future. Answer: Clashes between the different principles of nursing have been reported by many healthcare professionals over years. The clash between maintaining of the human dignity and the maintenance of the nursing duties based on principles of beneficence and non maleficence is observed. With the gradual passing of years, the rights of human dignity has been identified as the sense of self worth and self respect possessed by an individual of the nation. Human dignity mainly encompasses the right to fill basic needs like food, shelter and personal safety. In respect to nursing profession, human dignity mainly reflects the aspects of privacy, autonomy and respect of the patients (Jacobs, 2016). Each and every individuals of the nursing profession have to abide by the principal of dignity of the patients where they have to ask for their consent, wait for their approval and make them know about the entire procedure and consequences of the treatment they apply to patients. On the other hand, each and every nurse has to abide by the two principles of beneficence and non maleficence for the betterment of the patients (Cheraghi, Manookian and Nasrabadi, 2014). By the principle of beneficence, nurses need to provide the safest care to patient, which brings the best outcomes on patient health ensuring patient safety and patient satisfaction. By the principle of non-maleficence, the nurse needs to cause no harm to patients. Therefore nurses should provide the best care plan which would not only help patients to get proper service, but also help them to get well and develop their life for betterment (Rehssfeldt et al., 2014). This is for helping the society to strive well and lead happy lives so that the nation gradually gets free from people sufferings for the common good. There has been always a matter of concern when a nurse has to face a dilemma when adhering to more than one principle at a time. There are cases where the patients themselves lose the hope to live or does not want to live anymore may be due to chronic physical suffering or due to severe mental disorders. Often many suffer from severe depression. Such patients request nurses not to help them to survive and this becomes a moral concern for the nurses as their duty is to save peoples lives. (Eskilsson et al., 2015). Nurses who are responsible to save lives of people are in turn requested not to provide any care treatment for them. Here nurses often suffers from dilemma that whether they should save the human dignity or they should maintain their duty of beneficence and non maleficence. The concern of the do not resuscitate is often argued in the medical fields and result in popular debates. While many experts feel that giving freedom to such people who do not want to live is in a way serving them for making them not suffer from the physical or mental pain. Moreover, they also are of the opinion that helping in the end of sufferings of people are in turn helping them to get free of sufferings. This is unaccepted for another set of experts who believe every life is a blessing and putting an end to it when there is a scope of better chance of making the patient service is unethical. These experts suggest that often sufferings make people weak where they no more want to live. However, saving such lives and helping them to make their lives better with evidence based interventions are much more preferable (Santorum, 2014). This argument can be thereby explained as a conflict between benefits of common good and respecting the human dignity. Although every nurse should use both the principles in their care plan but often they face issues with such incidents. These issues are of the main concerns where new nurses face difficulty to take decisions in such situations of ethical dilemma as they get nervous (Girard et al., 2017). However with the gradual handling of such incidents, nurses develop situational awareness where they can take decisions about how to proceed with the cases. Critical reasoning skills are one of the most important skills which help nurses to handle such situations bravely. Moreover the strict laws of protecting human rights which have been introduced by the nations to make the nurses abide by the ethical principles make the situations worse as often nurse get involved in legal complication due to this. Hence serving human dignity and benefits for common good often becomes a concern fo r nurses. References: Cheraghi, M.A., Manookian, A. Nasrabadi, A.N., (2014). The North And South . Many People Think Of The Essays -
The North and South . Many People think of the Civil wars as just another war. Where somebody was trying to settle some kind of argument . Well it was not, it was to free men and it proves that no matter what we are all-equal in some way or another. Many people to date still question the power of slavery towards the black race. Many in fact still hold that thought of being owned but know one deserves to be treated that way. The North and the south. Who was considered good and who was ignorant? The North . The North was known as the Union against slavery . The North was was known as the rebels. Abraham Lincoln was the President for the Northern states (Union). Lincoln came up with some thing of his own power , his Inaugural address. The Contents were "Apprehension seems to exist among the people of the Southern States , that by the accession of A Republican Administration, their property, and their peace, and their personal security, are to be endangered. There is no reasonable cause for such apprehension." ( Civil War Years pg.34 Lincoln's Inaugural address) The South. Their the ones who made the Confederacy and who wanted to continue to run slavery as far into the ground as possible. Many believe in the words of all who say "Ignorance is bliss, so come knock the smile off my face" (Zack De Loroacha Rage Against The Machine.") Those are the much anticipated Words of hate from which one person thinks when they hear Civil war. That is pretty bad when still to date the practices of wrong are still brought up in the 1990's society. To get back on track with topic the South stood as the Yankees. ( Civil War Years pg.100) Jefferson Davis of Mississippi became the President of the Confederate States of America. Jefferson had served the Mexican wars.(Civil War ,pg30). War comes. In the last days of 1860 the majority of the people of the North refused to believe that the Union was headed for complete dissolution.(Correspondents of war, pg28). With in the first Month of the new year 1861 many Southern States followed the lead of South Carolina. Mississippi naturally by supreme ordinance of secession declared its self out of the Union on 1-9- 1861. Florida along with the following and proceeding in the order by date from the ninth of January was Louisiana, Georgia, and Texas all broke from the Union. (Civil War pg29) These states along with others not mentioned formed the Confederate States of America. On February 9, 1861 the well now known Confederate Congress choose Jefferson Davis as the new President for the Confederacy as mentioned earlier in the report. (Civil Correspondents) The Northern Generals. Lieutenant General Windfield Scott was a long time veteran of the war of 1812 and he was also a hero of the Mexican war, at this of the war Windfield was 75 years old. Next is General Irvin McDowell who's forces behind him consisted of 36,000 men with the reserve of 10,000. The Generals first battle at Bull Run was a run of bad Luck. Major General McClellan born eighteen-twenty Six (1826) and died in eighteen-eighty-five (1885). In July eighteen-sixty-one (1861) he had Command of the Army of the Potomac, and later that year was given the Supreme command. His hesitation in taking on the Offensive and his failure to take Richmond lead to his dismissal. McClellan was reinstated and failed to follow his success at the Battle of Antietam and was dismissed again in eighteen-sixty-two (1862). In eighteen-sixty- four (1864) he ran for Presidency against Abraham Lincoln and was unsuccessful. (Webster's International Encyclopedia ,pg.689). The Southern General's. General Thomas Jonathan Jackson better known as "Stonewall Jackson". General Jackson was born eighteen-twenty-four (1824) and died Eighteen-sixty-three (1863). He was an Confederate general in the American Civil War. He earned his nickname for his stand against the Union forces at the first battle of Bull Run in eighteen-sixty-one (1861). In May-June 1862 in the Shenandoah Valley campaign he fought brilliantly at the battles of Richmond, the Seven Days Battle, Cedar Mountain, the second battle of Bull Run, Antietam, and Fredericksburg. Using Photographs and Illustrations to Support Reading Comprehension
Using Photographs and Illustrations to Support Reading Comprehension Whether they are the cave drawings in the south of France, the cartoons of Hogarth or Satellite pictures, illustrations and photos are powerful ways for students with disabilities, especially difficulty with text, to find and retain information from textbooks and non-fiction. That, after all, is what reading comprehensionà is about: understanding and retaining information, and having the ability to retell that information, not performance on multiple choice tests.à Often students with reading difficulties are so stuck I find, when working with struggling readers, that they get so stuck on the code - decoding unfamiliar multi-syllabic words, that they dont get as far as the meaning. More often than not, they actually miss the meaning. Focusing students on text features, such as the illustrations and the captions help students focus on the meaning and authors intent before they actually have to read any text.à Illustrations will help students Understand what the author believes is important in the text.Visualize the context of the non-fiction text (especially history or geography) or content of the chapter/article.à For students who struggle with text, the visual representation of content will help them see the important content.à Learn text specific vocabulary.à An illustration of an insect in a biology text or a plant in a botany text will be accompanied by captions or labels.à Be sure that students note that information in the text.à Using Pictures and Illustrations in Conjunction with Other Text Features An essential part of SQ3Rà (Scan, Question, Read, Review, Reread) a long term strategy for developmental reading is to Scan the text.à Scanning basically includes looking over the text and identifying important information. Titles and Subtitles are the first stop on a text walk.à Titles will also help introduce the important topic spedific vocabulary.à Expect a chapter about the Civil War to have specific vocabulary in the subtitles. Be sure to have a list of focus words for flash cards before you start your text walk: Give (or have available) 3 by 5 cards available for students to write down the text specific vocabulary as your do the text walk together.à Captions and Labels accompany most pictures, and should be read as you do the text walk.à Be sure students record all of the important vocabulary, even if they can read them.à Depending on your students sophistication, a picture or a written definition should go on the back.à The purpose should be for your students to be able to define the vocabulary using their own words. The Reading Strategy - The Text Walk The first time you teach the strategy, you will want to walk the child through the whole process.à Later it will be better if you can fade some of your support and have students take more responsibility for the text walk.à This would be a great activity to do in partners across abilities, especially if you have students who benefit from the structure but have stronger reading skills. After reviewing the titles and pictures, have students make predictions:à What will you read about?à What do you want to know more about as you read?à Did you see a picture that surprised you?à Then scan together for vocabulary they should have on their flashcards.à Make a list on the board or using a document on the digital projector in your classroom.

Music, Folklore, and Nationalism (Music Appreciation) Essay
Music, Folklore, and Nationalism (Music Appreciation) - Essay Example Musical nationalism as a separate movement emerged in the mid-19th century. Most frequently the movement is linked to Russia, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Scandinavian countries, and it is represented in the works of Smetana, Dvorak, Grieg, Sibelius, Glinka and The Five, including Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov.(Harvard Dictionary of Music) For the most part, the movement coincided with political changes in Europe of that time and the birth of new nations. Sometimes, unfortunately, national pride instigated by folklore and music that carries a note of nationalism, led nations on the wrong path. Richard Wagner, one of the greatest German composers, used folklore and history in his work a lot. Among his many admirers was Adolf Hitler. ââ¬Å"Richard Wagner was Hitlers favorite composer. During World War I, it is reported, he carried Wagners music from Tristan in his knapsack. Often Hitler had Wagners music performed at party rallies and functions.â⬠(fcit.usf.edu) Hitlerââ¬â¢s admiration with Wagner was strengthened with composerââ¬â¢s political views and anti-Semitic writings during his life. When it comes to pointing at what element of music describes the best particular cultures, I believe it is the combination of factors. Folk melodies when quoted in classical music pieces have a strong effect. Some cultures rely heavily on specific instruments to express the tradition. Rhythm and harmony are important too. However, I believe that people feel most national pride when listening to folklore music if the music is strong, heroic and grandeur. It is not a coincidence that most national anthems are written in a way that appeals to feelings of belonging and unity. It is not a surprise that Nazi Germany adopted Wagner and his heroic and deeply Teutonic music. Folklore is not limited by boundaries between countries and nations. It travels along with people when they migrate. In that regard, United States, are a great example of how folklore have transcended over thousands

Buyer Behaviour Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Buyer Behaviour - Case Study Example The youth today is not lured by goods that are merely expensive. They want value for money and they purchase luxury goods for self-identity and well-being. Purchasing certain branded luxury goods help them to display their own tastes and values. For some it serves to fulfill the emotional needs where they see luxury as an indulgence of their senses. Luxury goods are premium goods with high quality products, aesthetic design supported by excellent service, purchased by people from the higher income bracket (Cheng, 2006). In the earlier days the term ââ¬Ëluxuryââ¬â¢ was applied to products that were rare and scarce and available to a small segment of the people. The luxury items were out of reach of the ordinary people and considered rare. Today the luxury product market has increased manifold. The young are spontaneously aware of the luxury brands with the men focusing on cars and motorbikes and womenââ¬â¢s focus on beauty and food. These reflect the desires and fantasies tha t are conditioned by the social environment and associations with well-being.Interpretation of the word ââ¬Ëluxuryââ¬â¢ depends upon their socio-economic background. The youth greatly represent the hedonistic effect in their attitude towards luxury items. This implies that they are not influenced by group norms. On the other hand they purchase luxury goods that give them self-fulfillment. They look for exclusive benefits and if products create an emotional value for consumers it represents that the product has been beneficial. The emotional value that the youth look for include pleasure, excitement and aesthetic beauty. They indulge in luxury items as it gives them a sense of well-being and self-respect and would also go the extent of using their credit cards for them. They prefer these luxuries against bringing up a child while the elders indulged in luxury only after their basic responsibilities were fulfilled (Hamilton, 2004). The elders seek more than value when considerin g purchasing a luxury brand. They try to balance the productââ¬â¢s tangible and intangible value with price. They assess discretionary purchases as either dispensable or indispensable, based on more deeply held core values (Salzman, 2009). While the youth focus on increasing their influence, power and wealth, the elders seek new priorities driven the fundamentals of human development. The traditional materialistic values are less important for the elders. The elders look for self-actualization in the luxury brand which as per Maslowââ¬â¢s hierarchy of needs comes only after all the other needs have been satisfied. Culture has a strong impact on the purchasing decisions. The youth are well aware of the luxury brands in areas like perfumes, clothing, fashion, leather goods, accessories, costume jewelry but not so in tableware. However they are very conscious of the modern sports cars and other different models of cars that emerge everyday. The attitude of the youth towards cars has definitely undergone a sea change from the 1980s. Marketing communications used by car

Nuclear Energy Essay Example for Free
Nuclear Energy Essay There are many advantages and disadvantages of using nuclear power. Nuclear power is said to prevent power outages that happen in areas without nuclear power. For an example, if we were using hydroelectricity and the dam suddenly malfunctions, then we wonââ¬â¢t have electricity until someone fixes the dam, and that would be difficult if it happened in the middle of the night. However, on the other hand, nuclear power is also considered toxic and it pollutes the Earth with harmful and deadly waste. Here are a few reasons why we should and should not use nuclear power. One of the reasons why we should use nuclear power is that it doesnââ¬â¢t pollute like coal and other fossil fuels. Scientists have said that using nuclear power is used to power electricity in most homes. They have also been saying that nuclear power tend to work better than using fossil fuels, gas power, and hydroelectric power. Since scientists are saying it works better, than we can use more nuclear power than using fossil fuels, gas power, and hydroelectric power. Another reason why we should use nuclear power is that scientists have said that it is possible to generate a high amount of electrical energy in one single nuclear power plant unlike coal, gas, hydroelectric power plants since they need a few to power electricity. This is important because it costs more to build a nuclear power plant than to build a coal, gas, or hydroelectric power plant. That way, we can save money by building one nuclear power plant instead of a few coal, gas, or hydro electric power plants. One more reason why we should use nuclear power is that scientists have been saying that the affect of global warming because of nuclear has been relatively little compared to coal, gas, and hydroelectric power. If we keep using nuclear power for electricity and other good uses, then there would be less global warming, but if we start to use more and more fossil fuels, then global warming will keep increasing in the future, so to prevent this, we can use nuclear energy. One of the reasons why we should not use nuclear power is that nuclear power is that nuclear energy releases radiation such as alpha, beta, and gamma radiation. Alpha particles can cause skin injuries similar to severe burns, beta particles can travel into the body and damage cells, and finally, gamma rays can deliver intense energy to the cells and cause severe damage. Radiationà from nuclear energy can wipe out the human generation, since mutation usually occurs when a person is affected by radiation. In order to prevent this from happening, we shouldnââ¬â¢t take chances and use nuclear energy. Another reason why we shouldnââ¬â¢t use nuclear power is because it takes many years for it to decay. Unlike coal, gas, and hydroelectric power, once you use it, it is not done. After a point where it has no more nuclear power, there are still radioactive waves in it that will still damage your cells. After the half-life of the radioactive element occurs, which could take a long time , only half of it has decayed. Nuclear energy can help, but later on we would have to dispose the nuclear waste to decay in a remote location. If we need remote locations to dispose nuclear waste, then one day we would run out of those areas, and possibly half of the world will be not be accessible to humans due to nuclear waste occupying the areas. One more reason why we shouldnââ¬â¢t use nuclear power is that one of the types of nuclear energy, nuclear fission produces high amounts of nuclear waste. Scientists have been saying that if we use nuclear energy, then we should be disposed off at a safe place since they are extremely hazardous and can leak radiation if not stored properly. If the wastes somehow get into the freshwater and saltwater systems, then all the sea animals will get affected, and we wonââ¬â¢t be able to drink the water from the freshwater. Another type of nuclear energy, nuclear fusion doesnââ¬â¢t produce any nuclear waste unlike nuclear fission, but it is really hard to make, so since it is hard to make, it wonââ¬â¢t be helpful for everyday electricity. In conclusion, there are many advantages and disadvantages against nuclear energy, but I think that as long as we keep the nuclear power plant is in a remote location where no one can go and get affected, we can use nuclear energy. When the nucle ar waste is produced, then we can dispose it off at a safe place since itââ¬â¢s extremely hazardous and can leak radiation if not stored properly. If we are going to use nuclear energy, then we should handle it carefully even if it is for electricity because if it is misused, then people who are affected by the radiation from the energy will have mutations or possibly even die.
